Content Management

All analytics content developed and used in Pyramid is stored in the content store, this includes reports, dashboards and shared business logic. Access (read and write) to the content store is controlled by your user access details – you will only see content you have permission to see. There are 3 main locations (folders) where content is stored:

  • My Content
    • Your personal work area
  • Workgroup
    • This a department or team folder where members of the team (defined by a Pyramid role) can develop new content and share with colleagues.
  • Public
    • The public folders are used to share content across teams and business functions. The content in the Public folders is managed by the BI Team and group cross departmental champions.
    • Access (read and write) to the content in the Public folders is controlled by permissions.

Shared Business Logic

Pyramid provides the ability to create shareable business logic which can be used across multiple reports and dashboards. This is a different approach and concept to many legacy Business Intelligence tool where previously calculations were stored in a specific report. If you needed the same calculation in a different report you would copy the calculation leading to duplication and support / maintenance issues.

In Pyramid a calculation or member grouping (list) can be created, stored in the content library, and re-used in a new report using the same data model. If the shared business logic is updated any report or dashboard using the logic will be automatically updated.

In order to benefit from this new approach you need to think about a different approach to developing new reports and dashboards. In order to support this new process we will provide guides, training and clinic to help you adopt a new way of working.

When you create new Pyramid content in a Workgroup we recommend you organize your content using the following folder structure:

\Workgroup Folder\

  • Present, Publish and Tabulate content objects

\Workgroup Folder \ <data source name> \ Reports

  • Discover objects

\Workgroup Folder \ <data source name> \ Model

  • Model objects

\Workgroup Folder \ <data source name> \ Illustrate

  • Illustrate objects

\Workgroup Folder \ <data source name> \ Business Logic

  • Formulate objects

Note

  • All Pyramid content objects should use a meaningful name so it is easy to identify the usage
  • For Formulate / Formula (calculations) objects the name of the object will be the display name used in a report.
  • For Discover objects the name of the objects will be the default name displayed when used in a dashboard or publication. The display name can be changed in the dashboard or publication.

The \Public folder is used to share content across multiple users and teams. The content objects will be organized based on business function or application name, as follows:

\Application Name\

  • Present, Publish and Tabulate content objects

\Application Name \ <data source name> \ Reports

  • Discover objects

\Application Name \ <data source name> \ Model

  • Model objects

\Application Name \ <data source name> \ Illustrate

  • Illustrate objects

\Application Name \ <data source name> \ Business Logic

  • Formulate objects
